#I Made IT!
Create Barbie Supermarket using Coles Little Shop
My seven-year-old daughter has grown up with Barbie the same way I did as a child, because this doll fuels the imagination. My daughter spends hours, if not entire days with girlfriends dreaming up and creating elaborate worlds and scenarios. Together with her girlfriends they stage or re-enact anything and everything from their recent camping trip to “The Barbie Voice” which includes ten barbies lined up taking turns to perform on stage while three judges select the final three contestants, then eventually they select the winner.
Barbie has had over 200 inspirational careers in her lifetime including astronaut, pilot, firefighter, surgeon, journalist, CEO, aerobics instructor and entrepreneur to name a few. Barbie has run for president six times and in 1965 Barbie traveled into space before man walked on the moon. Barbie's careers are designed to show that women can take on a variety of roles in life and for little girls this doll can make them dream and imagine.
Of course, my daughter has everything Barbie, the Dreamhouse, Barbies, Kens, Skippers, babies, pets, cars, helicopter, clothes and camper-van. These Barbie related accessories aren’t just toy’s in my eyes they are also props to help her create and use her imagination as well as develop her story-telling skills.
Does Barbie have everything? My answer is no! and certainly not her own supermarket.
When the first round of Coles Little Shop was released in 2018, I was wondering what could I do with all the duplicates? Then I watched my daughter use them in her Barbie kitchen. This gave me the idea to create a Coles Supermarket for Barbie to purchase groceries for her camping trip or stock the Barbie Dreamhouse. This also enabled my daughter to re-create her experiences of grocery shopping with her family.
In 2019, Coles released a second round of Coles Little Shop. This created a dilemma for Barbie, how were we going to fit the additional products in the supermarket? The only option was to expand and renovate of course!
All we need now is a Barbie SUV, unfortunately the Jeep and Corvette lack space for the groceries.
